The Essence of "Salaam"

A good friend of mine shared this with me, and I thought it would be beneficial to share it with you. Bismillah

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Prophet (salAllahu `alayhi wa salam) said:

"Spread peace, feed people, join ties of kinship, and pray at night when people are asleep and you will enter jannah with salam!"

This is the constitution which I try and base my daily life upon - i.e. try to do each one of these things at least onc… Continue

Seeking Refuge with Allah [a translated excerpt of the exegesis of Imam Sharawi]

“…They came to know with certainty that there is no refuge from God other than [a return] unto Him…” (Quran 9:118)

This verse means that people can not seek refuge except with God, and that He gives refuge from Himself. How is it possible for God to give refuge from Himself? It is possible because if you know that no one will give you refuge except the one who is after you, you should know then that no one else in the universe has any authority whatsoever. This is why we say that when yo… Continue

Prayer: A Sum of the Five Pillars (A translated excerpt of Imam Sharawi's tafsir)

“If we look at the five pillars of Islam, we find that the Muslim might be obligated to perform only some pillars while not performing others. The Muslim in poverty, who cannot find anything except that which is necessary for his life, will be exempt from Zakat (alms tax) and the Hajj (sacred pilgrimage). The sick Muslim who has a temporary illness will be exempt from fasting the month of Ramadan. Hence, one of the things remaining is to bear witness to the fact that there is no god but Allah an… Continue

Salam Alakium Hamzah

I read your post and thank you for the insight. I actually recieved a second copy of the Holy Quran today in the mail. I sent for this a while back and think it will help. The wording is a little more simple but there is no arabic only english. I also recieved a book entitled Seeking the Treasures of the Quran. I find this book very interesting as well. I have begun to memorize The Opening and if repeated enough it should stick in my mind. I think I must be calm and focused to fully memorize the words and then I will be fine.

I do have a Quran it was sent to me by a Muslim brother two months ago and have read some of it. The first chapter opening I have read as well and not memorized unfortunatly. I dont think I can memorize this in Arabic cause even though there is Arabic and English translations I cant read arabic writing so its illegable to me. What are your thoughts on this? I have found a very good website and work with Imans and Struggles may Allah bless you both. The website is www.muslimconverts.com. There is a large ammount of information there. What is your advice to help more brother?

Thank you so much I am trying to learn so much right now I guess there has to be focus one thing at a time. I know prayer is vital to keep the heart refreshed but even this is confusing. Arabic is the correct way to pray I am told but is English acceptable any thoughts? How is the best way I have a prayer book can I just place it on the floor and read from as I pray? Hmm also which direction to pray It sounds strange but I have a terrible sense of directions
