With only seven members I have a slim hope but still it is a possibility. I am located near Custer, SD and I want to find other Muslims between Wall, SD and Edgemont, SD. That would include the towns of Sturgis, Deadwood, Rapid City and Custer or anywhere else in between. Maybe together we can start building a community on this end of South Dakota. Inshallah. Sioux Falls and surrounding areas are way too far from here to be any help to anyone living in this area.

And another one joins our ranks. Alhumdulillah. I am happy to annouce our Dakota Muslim community is benig blessed with the addition of a couple of knowledgeable elders (she will hate that I call her that!). Sister Clareen (of Islamic Relief) & her hsuband Brother Thedrose will be retiring to South Dakota insha Allah, in Mid June. They have purchased a home in Huron & will be looking forward to participating in the South Dakota community. They have visited our masjids previously, with many unaware of their significance to the larger American Ummah. Brother Thedrose is one of the Founders of the Minnesota based Grey Beard Organization, which is a group of Muslim Elders. These two have long been involved in Minnesota ummah, and then later with the job wish Islamic Relief, they were in the Los Angeles community & later the Washington DC community. Sister Clareen was the director of the nation's "Domestic" programs (all IR programs in the US, or funded by IR). They are both a wealth of knowledge & alhumdulillah, now South Dakota is being blessed with having them as part of our community!

Salaam alaikum from the "big" metropolis" of Bushnell, SD...population 87! I may live in rural South Dakota, but I'm a citizen of the global Ummah & I network with Muslims from all over --- but especially in the upper midwest. If anyone is interested in having a speaker come to speak regarding the history of Muslims in the Upper Midwest, feel free to consider having me speak. I've studied the history & collaborated with Univ. Professors on research...and even Harvard University's Pluralist Project on this subject.

If Muslims want to see our communities develop, we have to quit simply "hoping" it will improve, and start changing things with our hands to develop the infastructure of change needed to strengthen our Muslim communities. Far too many newer Muslims to the region ASSUME there is no history here relating to Muslims, and disrespect the hard work of previous generations of Muslims. Its time we change that attitude & that behavior. It is time our young people (and some of the old) learn the true history of this region (Upper midwest) as it relates to Muslims. [That's my two cents worth] Salaam alaikum, your sister in Islam,
